Brightwood

Brightwood

Brightwood is a dark, heavily forested territory whose present state hides a much more hopeful past. Once remembered as a bastion of light and refuge for the people of Aeternum, the region has become feral, oppressive, and deeply scarred by the consequences of immortality.

The territory is defined by ruined settlements, cemeteries, old religious sites, and the remnants of communities that tried to preserve order while the island changed around them. Stories connected to the Bright Vigil, the Staudt family, Morgenstadt, Brightrest Cemetery, and Havelock’s investigations all contribute to the sense that Brightwood did not simply fall to a single disaster. It deteriorated through fear, death, experimentation, and the gradual failure of institutions that once offered protection.

Brightwood is especially important to the wider history of Aeternum because it explores the uncertain boundary between the living, the Lost, the Withered, and the Corrupted. Beneath its gloomy woods lies a long record of people attempting to understand forces that were already beyond their control.
