Cutlass Keys is filled with stories of pirates, shipwrecks, secret maps, hidden stashes, magical coins, and crews that discovered too late that Aeternum can turn ordinary greed into something supernatural.

Pirate Country

The territory has long attracted sailors and freebooters because its coast provides countless places to hide ships, supplies, and stolen wealth. Pirate rules, personal diaries, fishing records, charters, and treasure maps reveal communities that were often rough but surprisingly organized.

Like most societies on Aeternum, however, pirate crews face a problem that ordinary pirates never had to consider: death may not end a feud, a debt, or a search for treasure.

Treasure and the Cursed Doubloons

Cutlass Keys repeatedly links wealth to magic. Cursed Doubloons and other unusual coins are treated as more than currency. Treasure maps lead to caches scattered across beaches, caves, ruins, and islands, while stories of touched or cursed wealth warn that possession itself can carry consequences.

La Esperanza and Golden Greed

The strongest expression of this theme appears in the Cursed Mists. The treasure associated with La Esperanza carries the Golden Greed curse, driving fortune-seekers toward paranoia, betrayal, and murder. Companions who entered together can become enemies once the possibility of escaping with greater wealth appears.

This makes Cutlass Keys one of Aeternum’s clearest examples of the island amplifying a human impulse. Corruption is not required to destroy a community when greed can accomplish the same result.

A Territory of Endless Fortune Hunting

The tragedy of Cutlass Keys is that its warnings rarely stop the next treasure hunter. Every abandoned camp becomes another clue, every dead pirate leaves another map, and every cursed fortune creates a new legend. On an island where people return from death, the search for wealth can continue far longer than sanity or loyalty.
