Enemies

Ebonscale Reach is defined by the Corrupted Dynasty, the surviving military and courtly forces of Empress Zhou Taiying. Where Corrupted enemies elsewhere on Aeternum often appear as invading armies or cultists, Ebonscale’s enemies retain the visual identity and hierarchy of a long-established civilization.

The territory’s mountains, shrines, palaces, and villages are therefore not simply occupied by Corruption. They are the remains of a Dynasty whose soldiers, servants, and rulers have been transformed while continuing to defend the world they once controlled.

The Corrupted Dynasty

The Corrupted Dynasty is one of the most distinctive enemy factions in New World. Its ranks include Musketeers, Heavies, Warriors, Spear Captains, Summoners, and Maidens, creating the feel of a complete military and court rather than a single class of monster.

Their organization reflects the authority of Empress Zhou Taiying, who cultivated Corruption and pursued Dragon Magic over centuries. Her forces occupy locations throughout the Reach, including elemental shrines, military positions, and the enormous Imperial Palace.

The Dynasty’s continued discipline is part of what makes it dangerous. Corruption has not erased the structures of the old society; it has weaponized them.

Tigers and Corrupted Beasts

Tigers are strongly associated with Ebonscale’s enemy ecology. Both ordinary Tigers and Corrupted Tigers can be encountered in the region, sometimes serving alongside Dynasty forces.

The most famous examples are Joven and Oro, the creatures encountered during the Dynasty Shipyard expedition as Isabella’s Pets. Their presence reinforces the connection between Ebonscale’s wildlife, the Dynasty, and the broader Corrupted campaign moving across Aeternum.

Empress Zhou Taiying

Zhou Taiying is the central enemy figure of Ebonscale Reach. Her story reaches far beyond a normal territorial boss encounter: she is the ruler around whom the entire Corrupted Dynasty is organized.

Her attempts to wield Corruption and Dragon Magic turned the Reach into a supernatural imperial stronghold. Questions surrounding the dragons and the five elements of Wuxing also make the Dynasty’s corruption more complicated than simple conquest. Zhou sought power deliberately, and the enemies occupying Ebonscale are the consequences of that choice.

Notable Threats and Strongholds

  • Empress Zhou Taiying — Ruler of the Corrupted Dynasty and the defining antagonist of the territory.
  • Imperial Palace — Major elite stronghold of Dynasty forces; Prince Goroto is among its notable enemies.
  • Dynasty Shipyard — Expedition stronghold containing Dynasty troops, Joven and Oro, and Zhou Taiying herself.
  • Water Shrine and Fire Shrine — Elemental sites occupied by Corrupted forces.
  • Serenity Outpost — Another Corrupted-held location within the Reach.

The Enemy Landscape

Ebonscale Reach demonstrates that Corruption does not always destroy culture. Sometimes it preserves the outward shape of a society while twisting its purpose.

The uniforms, military roles, shrines, palaces, and beasts of the Dynasty all remain recognizable, but they now serve an empire that has been transformed by its ruler’s pursuit of supernatural power. For that reason, the enemies of Ebonscale Reach are inseparable from the territory’s history.
