Enemies
The enemies of the Elysian Wilds are the result of a territorial transformation. This land was once First Light, but Artemis and the Angry Earth reshaped it into a dense, dangerous wilderness. Familiar animals became more savage, enormous Beast Lords established domains, and Angry Earth forces occupied what remained of the former human territory.
Because of that history, the Elysian Wilds should not be treated as simply another Angry Earth zone. Its enemy population is evidence of deliberate terraforming and the creation of a new natural order over the ruins of the old one.
Enemy Families
| Enemy Family | Presence in the Elysian Wilds |
|---|---|
| Angry Earth | The dominant supernatural force, occupying former First Light locations and newly transformed wilderness. |
| Beasts / Hercyne Creatures | Feral and transformed animals are central to the territory, including enormous Beast Lords. |
| Human | Artemis is the principal human antagonist behind the transformation, even though most of the forces serving her are Angry Earth or beasts. |
| Remnants of Old First Light | The landscape preserves ruins of the previous territory, but its old enemy population should be considered separately from the modern Wilds. |
The Angry Earth
When Artemis invaded First Light, the Angry Earth did not simply occupy existing settlements. The territory itself changed. Forests overtook roads and buildings, vegetation expanded rapidly, and former human spaces became part of a new ecosystem.
Angry Earth enemies now control locations such as Old First Light Settlement and Tanglesnap Hollows. Their presence makes the transformation visible: places built for human habitation have become territory defended by nature.
The Elysian Wilds therefore represents the Angry Earth at its most transformative. Instead of protecting an existing wilderness, as in Edengrove, it created one.
Feral Beasts and the Beast Lords
The expansion of the Wilds also empowered Aeternum’s animal life. Feral Beasts, Hercyne creatures, and other transformed animals occupy large portions of the region, including Kurok’s Rest.
Above ordinary beasts stand the Beast Lords. These enormous creatures became rulers of their own domains within the changed territory. The Mammoth Lord and Gorilla Lord are especially important to the story surrounding the Savage Divide, where primordial beasts became major obstacles to anyone attempting to cross or understand the new wilderness.
Creatures such as Elysian Elk and Edenclaw further blur the mechanical line between Beast and Angry Earth. They look like animals, but their forms and powers show how deeply the territory’s living ecosystem has been altered.
Artemis
Artemis is the central antagonist behind the fall of First Light and the rise of the Elysian Wilds. Unlike the Dryads and beasts that dominate the territory, she is a human figure who chose to align herself with the Angry Earth’s goals.
With powerful terraforming magic and the aid of the Ennead, Artemis reshaped the territory and empowered the creatures within it. Her role makes the Wilds unusual: the enemy ecology is natural in appearance, but much of its present form was deliberately engineered.
Notable Threats and Areas

- Savage Divide — A major domain of powerful beasts and Beast Lord encounters.
- Kurok’s Rest — Territory associated with dangerous Feral Beasts.
- Tanglesnap Hollows — An Angry Earth-held location.

The Enemy Landscape
The Elysian Wilds is one of the clearest examples of enemies changing the geography of Aeternum rather than merely occupying it. The Angry Earth, Artemis, and the Beast Lords collectively erased much of First Light’s human identity and replaced it with an aggressive ecosystem.
For the enemy population that existed before this transformation, see the historical First Light territory. Keeping the two separate preserves one of the most important before-and-after stories in Aeternum.
