Monarch’s Bluffs contains the heart of Aeternum’s Arthurian history. Its cliffs and ruined strongholds once formed the foundation of the kingdom established by King Artorius, whose search for Avalon brought one of the island’s most famous legends into Aeternum’s reality.

King Artorius Arrives

Artorius came to Aeternum believing the island might be connected to the legendary Avalon. Rather than finding a simple paradise, he and his followers entered the same cycle faced by countless other arrivals: immortality, supernatural threats, political division, and powers that did not behave according to Old World expectations.

He nevertheless established a kingdom in the territory, and Monarch’s Bluffs became associated with the authority of the High King.

The Reign of the High King

The surviving lore treats Artorius’s reign as a distinct era. The Round Table and its knights brought ideals of loyalty, kingship, and martial honor to the island, but Aeternum transformed those ideals through endless conflict.

Varik, later associated with the Varangian Knights, was once connected to Artorius. The wars involving Myrddin and the Crimson Madness further fractured the old order.

The Fall

The kingdom ultimately did not survive. Writings connected to the Fall of the High King, ruined fortifications, traitors, storms, and later occupants preserve only pieces of what happened. As with many Aeternum civilizations, collapse did not produce a clean ending. Survivors, enemies, Lost, and old obligations continued afterward.

Life After the Kingdom

Monarch’s Bluffs is not only royal history. Miners, farmers, travelers, and later settlers reused a landscape still filled with the remains of Artorius’s age. This layering is important: a field or mine may appear ordinary while sitting beside evidence of one of the island’s greatest kingdoms.

Arthurian Aeternum

The territory demonstrates how New World’s lore treats legend. Artorius is neither a simple retelling of King Arthur nor a detached reference. His kingdom is woven into Aeternum’s chronology and connects directly to Great Cleave, the Varangians, Myrddin, and conflicts that continued long after the High King’s fall.
