Enemies
Reekwater is a hostile swamp where several of Aeternum’s major enemy families overlap. Lost pirates serve the Siren Queen, Angry Earth creatures defend the wetlands, and Ancient Guardians continue to protect ruins and the secrets of the Lazarus Instrumentality.
Unlike territories dominated by one invading army, Reekwater’s dangers feel embedded in the swamp itself. Water, fungus, ruins, undead sailors, and living vegetation all contribute to an environment in which almost every path leads into someone else’s territory.
Enemy Families
| Enemy Family | Presence in Reekwater |
|---|---|
| Lost | The Siren Queen and her undead pirate followers dominate much of the coastal and maritime threat. |
| Angry Earth | Swamp Dryads, Fiends, Creepers, and other wetland variants defend the natural environment. |
| Ancient Guardians | Protect Ancient ruins and the Lazarus Instrumentality. |
| Beasts | Alligators and other swamp predators remain dangerous outside the major strongholds. |
The Siren Queen and the Lost
The Siren Queen is the defining enemy figure of Reekwater. Her flotilla arrived in the territory and helped destroy the hopes of the fisherfolk who had attempted to build a permanent settlement over the submerged Ancient ruins.
The Queen and her crew eventually became Lost, but their transformation did not erase their organization. Her songs lure victims to death or draw them into her growing ranks, while undead pirates continue to patrol the waters and settlements under her influence.
The region’s Lost include especially dangerous pirate forms such as the Undead Pirate Brute, giving Reekwater a heavier and more monstrous version of the maritime undead encountered in other coastal territories.
Swamp Dryads and the Angry Earth
Reekwater also contains several enemy forms created specifically to fit its wetland environment. Swamp Dryads are Angry Earth variants adapted to the marsh, while Swamp Fiends and Creepers attack from vegetation and poisoned ground.
Other creatures, including the Sufferance of the Elders and the Protector of the Source, connect the swamp’s hostile ecology to the territory’s deeper story about Azoth, life, and the Angry Earth’s defense of natural power.
These enemies make the marsh itself feel alive. The danger is not limited to camps or ruins; hostile vegetation can be part of the terrain.
Ancient Guardians and Lazarus
Beneath the swamp lie remnants of an even older civilization. Ancient Guardians occupy sites such as Skyview Repose and other ruins throughout Reekwater, continuing to defend structures long after their builders disappeared.
Their greatest stronghold is the Lazarus Instrumentality, a secret Ancient facility tied to the origins and purpose of the Guardians themselves. Major enemies inside include Cilla, a powerful Ancient defender, and Chardis, a colossal construct guarding the Lazarus Well.
Lazarus makes Reekwater one of the most important territories for understanding the Ancients as more than skeletal enemies. The ruins contain functioning technology, deliberate defenses, and evidence of a much larger system.

The Enemy Landscape
Reekwater’s enemies are divided by what they are trying to possess or protect. The Siren Queen seeks souls and control over her followers. The Angry Earth defends the swamp and its life. Ancient Guardians protect ruins and mechanisms from a civilization that vanished long ago.
All three forces occupy the same drowned landscape, making Reekwater one of Aeternum’s clearest examples of history, undeath, and nature fighting over the same ground.
