Enemies

Restless Shore is one of Aeternum’s great Lost territories. Its beaches, islands, forts, and ruined settlements are crowded with undead sailors and pirates who display an unsettling degree of organization and memory. The territory also contains a major Corrupted stronghold beneath the coast and an Angry Earth enclave at Eridanus.

This mixture makes Restless Shore more than a pirate zone. It is a place where different supernatural forces occupy separate layers of the same coastline.

The Lost of Restless Shore

Official descriptions of Restless Shore specifically call attention to its undead Lost and the strange sentience they display. That intelligence is important. Many of the territory’s pirates do not behave like creatures that have forgotten everything they once were; they continue to guard ships, occupy forts, maintain ranks, and fight over familiar territory.

Locations such as Poseidon’s Plunder are held by Lost, while cemeteries, coastal camps, wrecks, and islands contain additional undead populations.

This makes Restless Shore one of the best places to examine the question of how much identity a Lost person can retain. The pirates may be dead in every ordinary sense, but their society has not completely stopped functioning.

The Corrupted and the Depths

Beneath the territory lies the Depths, an Ancient ruin that has been turned into a base by a Corrupted army. This creates a striking contrast with the Lost above ground: the undead pirates linger around the coast, while a disciplined Corrupted force uses older infrastructure to pursue a larger campaign.

Archdeacon Azamela is one of the major Corrupted leaders within the Depths. The expedition ultimately leads to Commander Thorpe, one of the most important Corrupted antagonists in the larger New World storyline.

Thorpe’s presence makes Restless Shore significant far beyond its regional pirate conflicts. The territory contains a direct connection to the organized Corrupted forces threatening all of Aeternum.

Angry Earth at Eridanus

The elite area of Eridanus contains a powerful Angry Earth population. Dryads and other natural guardians occupy the site, creating a third major supernatural force within the territory.

The contrast is useful: Lost cling to the remnants of human maritime life, the Corrupted operate from an Ancient installation, and the Angry Earth controls a living enclave of its own.

Notable Threats and Strongholds

  • Poseidon’s Plunder — Lost-held location representative of the territory’s undead pirate population.
  • The Depths — Corrupted expedition built into Ancient ruins beneath Restless Shore.
  • Archdeacon Azamela — Major Corrupted leader within the Depths.
  • Commander Thorpe — Powerful Corrupted antagonist encountered at the expedition’s climax.
  • Eridanus — Elite Angry Earth area populated by Dryads and other natural guardians.

The Enemy Landscape

Restless Shore is defined by enemies that refuse to leave. Lost pirates continue to occupy the coast, Corrupted forces repurpose ruins beneath it, and Angry Earth guardians defend their own enclave nearby.

The territory’s name is therefore fitting in more than a geographical sense. Neither the dead, the land, nor the powers beneath it are at rest.
