Enemies

Shattered Mountain is the principal stronghold of the Corrupted on Aeternum. Other territories suffer Corrupted camps, breaches, or invading forces; here, the Corrupted have a homeland-like center of power. The shattered landscape, the fortress-city of Myrkgard, and the approach to the Tempest’s Heart all reinforce the sense that adventurers are entering enemy territory rather than defending against an incursion.

Smaller populations of Angry Earth and other creatures exist around the edges, but the identity of Shattered Mountain belongs overwhelmingly to Corruption.

Enemy Families

The Corrupted Stronghold

The Corrupted in Shattered Mountain operate on a scale rarely seen elsewhere. Myrkgard functions as their great northern fortress, filled with soldiers, officers, cultists, and powerful named enemies.

Rather than a handful of infected settlers, these forces resemble an army. Legionnaires, Acolytes, ranged troops, heavy fighters, and other specialized Corrupted enemies guard roads, walls, ritual sites, and elite areas across the mountain.

Locations such as Tenebris Aeterna, Apostate Nave, and the Upper Harrows reinforce the concentration of Corrupted power. The closer adventurers move toward Myrkgard, the less the territory resembles wilderness and the more it resembles a hostile capital.

Isabella

Isabella is the defining enemy figure of Shattered Mountain and one of the central antagonists of New World’s main story. Her journey from shipwrecked explorer to champion of Corruption culminates in the north.

The Tempest’s Heart expedition carries adventurers through a distorted version of Myrkgard and deeper into Isabella’s corrupted world. The encounter is not simply a territorial boss fight; it serves as the conclusion of the long conflict that began with the corruption of Isabella and Captain Thorpe.

Neishatun and the Corrupted Command

Among the other major threats is Neishatun, a powerful servant of Corruption encountered in the Tempest’s Heart. His presence, together with figures such as High Priest Oseguera at the Blood Cenacle, shows that the Corrupted possess both military and religious hierarchies.

These enemies are not wandering monsters. They participate in rituals, defend strategic positions, and serve leaders who pursue goals across Aeternum.

Other Enemy Pockets

Although Corruption dominates the mountain, it has not erased every other force. Spryla Tower is associated with Angry Earth enemies, demonstrating that natural guardians can survive even near the heart of the Corrupted north.

These exceptions make the Corrupted dominance more striking. In most of Shattered Mountain, other families appear as isolated pockets surrounded by a much larger enemy civilization.

Notable Threats and Strongholds

  • Myrkgard — The great Corrupted fortress-city and the defining enemy stronghold of Shattered Mountain.
  • Isabella — Central champion of Corruption and final figure of the Tempest’s Heart storyline.
  • Neishatun — Powerful Corrupted enemy within the Tempest’s Heart.
  • High Priest Oseguera — Notable Corrupted figure associated with the Blood Cenacle in Myrkgard.
  • Tenebris Aeterna, Apostate Nave, and Upper Harrows — Major concentrations of Corrupted enemies.
  • Spryla Tower — An exception to the territory’s Corrupted dominance, associated with Angry Earth forces.

The Enemy Landscape

Shattered Mountain demonstrates what Corruption looks like when it is allowed to build, organize, and fortify instead of merely infecting isolated victims. The territory contains roads, strongholds, commanders, rituals, and armies devoted to the same power.

For adventurers traveling north, this is the point where Corruption stops feeling like a spreading disease and begins to feel like a nation at war.
