Enemies
Weaver’s Fen is a drowned landscape shared by two enemy populations with very different histories: Lost inhabitants occupy abandoned human settlements, while Ancient Guardians continue to patrol bridges, roads, and ruins left by a civilization that vanished long before those settlements were founded.
The territory’s wildlife adds further danger, but the contrast between Lost and Ancient is what gives the Fen its enemy identity. One group represents people who could not escape Aeternum’s immortality; the other represents defenses that have outlived the civilization they were built to protect.
Enemy Families
| Enemy Family | Presence in Weaver’s Fen |
|---|---|
| Lost | A major presence in abandoned villages, marsh settlements, and other remnants of human occupation. |
| Ancient Guardians | Defend bridges, roads, ruins, and other infrastructure throughout the territory. |
| Beasts | Alligators, boars, and other swamp wildlife are common environmental threats. |
| Corrupted / Other Supernatural Threats | Smaller localized dangers exist, but they do not define the territory as strongly as the Lost and Ancients. |
The Lost Settlements
The Lost occupy many of Weaver’s Fen’s former communities. Fenton Hamlet, Verloren Marsh, Hinbrucken, and Geruchten are all associated with Lost enemies.
These locations make the undead threat feel particularly human. The Lost are not isolated in crypts; they inhabit villages, homes, docks, and working spaces that once belonged to ordinary settlers. In the Fen, the collapse of a community can remain physically visible for generations because its inhabitants never completely leave.
Named enemies such as the Fenton Ravager represent the more dangerous individuals that emerge from these populations.
Ancient Guardians
The second defining enemy family is the Ancient Guardians. They remain active around Aqua Acadia, Andrometus, and the North and South Vega Bridges.
One of the territory’s lore accounts describes Guardians at the Vega Bridge as if they are still conscripted to the same duty, patrolling a stretch of road in defense of a civilization that no longer exists. That image captures the Ancient presence in Weaver’s Fen perfectly: infrastructure has collapsed, the landscape has become swamp, but the guards continue their assigned routes.
Their persistence also suggests that the Fen was once very different. Roads and monumental bridges imply a level of development that the marshy present-day landscape can easily hide.
Wildlife of the Fen
The swamp itself is hostile even between settlements and ruins. Alligators lurk in the waterways, while Polder Boars and other animals occupy drier ground.
These creatures are not part of the territory’s supernatural history, but they shape how travelers experience it. Water restricts movement, visibility is poor, and natural predators can attack while adventurers are already navigating Lost or Ancient territory.
Notable Threats and Areas
- Fenton Hamlet — Lost-held settlement and home region of the Fenton Ravager.
- Verloren Marsh — Another major Lost location.
- Hinbrucken and Geruchten — Abandoned communities occupied by Lost enemies.
- North Vega Bridge and South Vega Bridge — Ancient infrastructure still defended by Ancient Guardians.
- Aqua Acadia and Andrometus — Important Ancient Guardian sites.
- Swamp waterways — Habitat for alligators and other dangerous wildlife.
The Enemy Landscape
Weaver’s Fen is a territory of things that continue after their purpose is gone. Lost settlers remain in communities that can no longer sustain them, and Ancient Guardians defend roads leading to a vanished civilization.
Both populations are trapped by a different kind of persistence, which makes the Fen’s enemies unusually well matched to its broader lore of sickness, transformation, abandoned infrastructure, and attempts to understand the boundary between life and undeath.
