Enemies
Windsward’s fertile fields and open forests conceal a surprisingly broad enemy population. Lost sailors and settlers occupy abandoned sites, Ancient Guardians defend old ruins, Corrupted forces threaten the coast and inland routes, and ordinary wildlife fills the spaces between them.
Because Windsward is one of Aeternum’s most welcoming-looking territories, these enemies provide an early lesson in how many different layers of danger can exist beneath an apparently peaceful landscape.
Enemy Families
| Enemy Family | Presence in Windsward |
|---|---|
| Lost | Drowned and other Lost occupy waterfalls, redoubts, farms, and abandoned settlements. |
| Ancient Guardians | Protect old structures such as Mirador Shrine and Fallswatch Overlook. |
| Corrupted | Present along the starting coast and in inland strongholds such as Pride of Crato. |
| Beasts | Wolves, boars, and other animals are common across the grasslands and forests. |
The Lost and Drowned
Windsward’s rivers and coast support several populations of Drowned. Dragon’s Teeth Falls and Captain Dauti’s Redoubt are both associated with these maritime Lost, while other sites such as Bullrush Wash contain additional Lost enemies.
The Drowned are a recurring reminder that Aeternum’s waterways carry more than trade and travel. Sailors who die or lose their purpose can continue haunting the same docks, wrecks, and riverbanks for generations.
The named Lost enemy Swogglesmear, encountered around Dragon’s Teeth Falls, is one example of the individualized threats that emerge from these groups.
Ancient Guardians
Ancient Guardians occupy places such as Mirador Shrine and Fallswatch Overlook. Their ruins stand in sharp contrast to Windsward’s farms and windmills, revealing that the territory’s human agricultural history rests on top of a much older civilization.
These enemies are particularly important in Windsward because the surrounding land is so heavily settled. Ancient sites are not confined to distant endgame regions; they exist beside some of the most ordinary human landscapes on Aeternum.
Corruption
The modern opening story brings new arrivals into conflict with Corrupted forces almost immediately. Corruption storms and hostile enemies along the coast transform the shipwreck experience from a simple survival problem into evidence of a larger supernatural attack.
Further inland, locations such as Pride of Crato demonstrate that the Corrupted threat is not limited to the beach. These forces maintain positions inside a territory otherwise known for agriculture, trade, and settlement.
Wildlife
Windsward’s healthy environment supports a large population of ordinary beasts. Wolves, boars, and other animals are common throughout the territory and often become the first enemies encountered away from roads and settlements.
They may be less supernatural than the Lost or Corrupted, but their abundance is part of what makes Windsward feel alive. This is still wild land, even where farms have temporarily pushed the forest back.
Notable Threats and Areas
- Dragon’s Teeth Falls — Drowned-held area and the territory associated with Swogglesmear.
- Captain Dauti’s Redoubt — Another concentration of Drowned enemies.
- Bullrush Wash — Lost-held location.
- Mirador Shrine and Fallswatch Overlook — Ancient Guardian sites.
- Pride of Crato — Corrupted-held location.
- The starting coast — One of the first places new arrivals encounter the modern Corrupted threat.
The Enemy Landscape
Windsward’s enemies reveal the layers beneath its pastoral appearance. Lost sailors preserve failed attempts at settlement, Ancient Guardians protect a civilization buried beneath the fields, and Corruption intrudes upon both.
The territory may be green and fertile, but it is no less trapped by Aeternum’s history than the darker regions farther north.
