Riding
Riding is the Trade Skill that governs mounted travel in New World: Aeternum. Introduced with Rise of the Angry Earth, it allows players to progress beyond simply owning a mount by earning travel upgrades, mount-related bonuses, and access to higher-tier mount food.
Mount Types
Aeternum features three primary mount families:
- Horses
- Dire Wolves
- Lions
Mount choice is primarily about appearance and customization rather than selecting a fundamentally different travel class. Mounts can be named and equipped with cosmetic gear, while Riding progression determines the practical upgrades earned by the character.
Leveling Riding
Riding XP is gained through mount-focused activities, including mount quests, races or time trials, and feeding mounts. Progression rewards improvements that make mounted travel more effective across Aeternum.
Riding can be leveled to 250, placing it alongside the other modern Trade Skills as a long-term progression path.
Riding Rewards
Riding progression can unlock or improve features such as:
- Increased mounted travel speed.
- Mount-related buffs and passive benefits.
- Access to higher-tier consumable mount food.
- Mount attachments and cosmetic rewards.
- Additional mount quests and progression milestones.
Why Riding Matters
Riding is not part of the normal Gather → Refine → Craft chain, but it indirectly improves nearly every open-world activity. Faster travel reduces the time required to move between resource routes, quests, settlements, events, objectives, and distant territories.
For gatherers in particular, Riding can substantially reduce travel time between valuable nodes and resource clusters, making it one of the most useful utility Trade Skills in the game.
